"You either love me, or you hate me, or you don't know who I am" — Mark Bowden.

Actually, I stole that from BANKSY. Come get me; you'll never take me alive. Ironically, I was introduced to him more than 20 years ago in the early hours of the morning underneath the arches at London Bridge Station. I had zero idea who he was. How times change. Wish I could remember his face.

Talking of Love and Hate: people often say the same about Marmite. You either love it or you hate it. And some people have no idea what it is. That's the great thing about popular culture: it's about what dominates people's minds. Good and bad. Beautiful and ugly. And if you don't resonate with it - who cares! It's utterly disposable. Today's news is tomorrow's chip wrapper, as one chief editor of The UK's Sun newspaper used to say.

And that's the same for making great video in the business world today. Love making it as current, relevant, and helpful as you can. Put it out there immediately. And now know it's tomorrow's digital garbage. Hey, maybe you'll get a perennial hit, but only if you make enough singles. You can't be precious about the content. And if you are having trouble with the technology - throw it away and get simpler stuff. The kind of gear that might fall out of a Christmas Cracker. Anything complicated in your head or in your hand that stops you from making a video immediately is killing your creativity, communication, and maybe your business growth. Everyone can get going on the base riff to Under Pressure or Ice Ice Baby within 30 seconds. If you can't get going on a video in that same time, you are likely trying to make a collection of content that will live forever, or you are adjusting the white balance on your Canon EOS R7 manually. Switch everything to AUTO.

Pick up your device. Point it at you and your dog. Press record. Introduce us to your dog and now help us deal with what's going on today. Yes, I know, we'd all love a viral hit. But that won't come from quality. It comes from quantity. It's daunting to think how you'll come up with all those ideas. But my best friend Shaun, who's worked with Sting and Roger Daltrey, says all you've ever really got is just ONE song. Each new one is only the same theme that you understand so well or desire so much repeated in a new context. McCartney says, "It was always LOVE for The Beatles." She Loves You, With Love From Me To You, Love Love Love. Do you see the pattern?

Nothing in great art is new. And what's the point of art? Well, I think it's to remind people that they are alive.

Finally, I once worked with the man who taught David Bowie to dance. He said to me, "I was destined for stardom... I'm still waiting." Lindsey is dead now. Yep, you never knew of him. I wish that story ended better. But we'll all have forgotten about it by morning, and I'll have posted something new.
